A type of decoration executed by covering a surface,
as of plaster or enamel of one color, with a thin coat of a similar
material of another color, and then scratching or scoring through
the outer coat to show the color beneath.

and the base. It is used especially to describe small columns
around a pillar or columns in door jambs or window surrounds.
They may be part of the same stone as the pillar to which they
are attached or they can be separated pieces. Sections vary in
shape and are often ornamented.
